TLDR

What this page covers, at a glance

Aramid yarns — valued for their exceptional tensile strength and near-zero elongation — present a specific challenge on conventional winding equipment: even small tension fluctuations cause package deformation or filament damage, and a single undetected yarn break can compromise an entire dye-house batch. The Cone to Cone Assembly Winder (Model CW-250) addresses this directly. Its individual motor-driven drum system gives each of the 24 winding positions independent speed control, so the mechanical resistance that characterises aramid filament yarns never cascades across the machine the way it would on a common shaft-driven winder.

The CW-250 was developed to handle a wide span of technical yarns — from relatively forgiving viscose and cotton through to demanding filament yarns including high-tenacity polyester and nylon — and that breadth of material experience is precisely what makes it reliable on aramids. Where other materials in the same family, such as UHMWPE or glass fiber yarn, demand careful tension management to avoid fibre damage, aramids raise the stakes further because surface abrasion is irreversible and package density must be uniform to survive the dye bath. The washer tension device on the CW-250 delivers that uniformity position by position, not as a machine-wide average.

Product to use

What product to use

For rewinding and assembling aramid yarn, use the Cone to Cone Assembly Winder (CW-250): its individual motor-driven grooved drums, washer tension device, and optical break detection give aramid filament the controlled, low-abrasion winding path it requires, while supporting up to 6-ply assembly onto a single take-up package up to 250 mm diameter.

Why this product · for this application

Why Cone to Cone Assembly Winder is the right product for Aramids

Aramid yarn is stiff, has minimal elongation, and is highly sensitive to abrasion at the point of yarn contact — three properties that demand a winding system with independent position-level control rather than a shared mechanical drive. The Cone to Cone Assembly Winder's individual motor-driven drum architecture means each position on the CW-250 can respond to the specific resistance profile of an aramid end without affecting neighbouring positions. The anodized aluminum grooved drum ensures the yarn path is smooth and repeatable, limiting the surface contact that would cause fibre degradation, and the washer tension device keeps the wind tight enough for package integrity without over-tensioning a yarn that will not yield.

The same engineering logic that makes the CW-250 suited to aramids has proven reliable on adjacent high-tenacity materials such as UHMWPE and glass fiber yarn, where tension spikes and filament breakage carry similarly severe downstream consequences. For aramid applications specifically — whether preparing packages for a dye-house or building multi-end assemblies for rope or ballistic fabric producers — the optional overfeeder for soft winding and the splicer for joining aramid ends mid-run extend the machine's capability beyond what a basic cone winder can offer.

How It Works

  1. Feed Package Loading

Aramid cheese or cone packages up to 250 mm diameter and 4–5 kg are mounted on the CW-250's creel. For multi-end aramid assembly (up to 6 ply), the optional creel configuration positions each feed end at a controlled angle to minimise abrasion on the stiff aramid filament before it reaches the tension device.

  2. Tension Setting via Washer Device

The washer tension device is set per the count and type of aramid yarn being wound. Because aramid has near-zero elongation, the washer must be calibrated to hold the yarn firmly enough to prevent sloughing on the take-up package without exceeding the filament's surface-friction tolerance — a balance the individual motor drive holds position by position.

  3. Controlled Winding onto Take-Up Cone

The anodized aluminum grooved drum traverses the aramid yarn onto the 57 × 290 mm take-up cone at up to 500 MPM. The individual motor on each drum maintains surface-speed consistency as the take-up package builds toward its 250 mm maximum diameter, preventing the tension drift that a common shaft-driven winder would introduce at this stage.

  4. Optical Yarn Break Detection and Cut-Off

The optical sensor monitors the aramid end continuously. On break detection — more frequent with stiff, low-elongation yarns under any vibration — the heavy-duty cutter fires automatically and the position stops, isolating the break without disturbing adjacent running ends. The operator restarts only the affected position, keeping the 24-position machine productive.

  5. Package Doffing and Downstream Handoff

Completed aramid packages reach 7–8 kg in a knot-less wind, within the 250 mm diameter limit, and are transferred directly to the dye-house or twisting department. The preset length-of-yarn parameter control on the CW-250 ensures each doffed package matches the batch specification, which is critical for even aramid dyeing results.

Why this product · key differentiators

Why Cone to Cone Assembly Winder

Position-Level Motor Independence
Each of the 24 winding positions on the CW-250 runs its own motor drive, so the mechanical stiffness of an aramid end at one position cannot load or destabilise the aramid packages being built at adjacent positions.
Automatic Break Response for Stiff Filaments
The optical sensor and heavy-duty cutter combination responds to aramid yarn breaks immediately and isolates only the affected position, avoiding the fibre pile-up and package damage that a delayed or manual response would cause on a stiff, low-elongation material.
Proven Assembly Winding up to 6-Ply
The optional creel and assembly winding configuration allows the CW-250 to combine multiple aramid ends onto a single take-up package in one pass — reducing handling steps and the abrasion risk each additional winding operation would otherwise introduce to this sensitive filament.

"Looks like a robust machine," that's what Sanjay said when the Two For One Twister showed up. He's not wrong. Been using it in our operation for months now, and haven’t found much to complain about—runs like a charm mostly. But stars of the show were Meera's support team when we hit a snag. They sorted the issue fast, and it wasn't some run-of-the-mill hiccup either. Saw these folks regularly at trade shows but wasn't sure till I tried their stuff myself. No regrets here except one thing—ordering spares could be less of a headache. Could do with some streamlining on that front.

Met a guy from Meera at a trade fair, and we talked over chai. Decided to try out their Bulking And Heat Setting Machines for our carpet yarn. The thing does a good job—handles all kinds of materials like polyester and wool without breaking a sweat. We've got it running almost daily with no hiccups. The support team deserves credit here. Had an issue with the temperature settings at first, but they were quick to sort it out. Honestly saved us some downtime. Only wish ordering spares was easier; bit of back and forth there. If you're considering these machines, ask them about setup specifics before diving in. They'll guide you well, but it's good to be clear early on.

50% less production time. That’s what Meera's Compound Twister delivered for us. We took the leap, and honestly, it paid off big. Always a bit skeptical with promises like that—but they backed it up. Installation was a little more back-and-forth than I’d hoped, but in the end, worth every email. Our processes really needed this kind of efficiency boost, and seeing direct cuts in energy consumption was huge too. If you're managing a midsize operation like ours, definitely have a look at them.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can the Cone to Cone Assembly Winder handle aramid yarn without causing tension-related package defects?
Yes — the Cone to Cone Assembly Winder (CW-250) handles aramid yarn using a washer tension device that maintains consistent tension throughout the wind, preventing the package deformation that aramid's near-zero elongation makes it vulnerable to. The individual motor-driven drum system eliminates the tension spikes common in shaft-driven winders, and optical sensor yarn break detection with an automatic cutter stops the machine instantly on breakage to protect package integrity.
How does the Cone to Cone Assembly Winder prevent filament breakage when rewinding aramid yarn at high speed?
The CW-250 prevents filament breakage in aramid yarn by combining a washer tension device for consistent yarn tension with an anodized aluminum grooved drum that delivers precise, repeatable traverse without contact irregularities. Individual motor control per position means each spindle runs at the speed suited to that yarn, and optical break detection with a heavy-duty cutter stops the wind immediately before a break propagates across neighboring filaments.
Is the Cone to Cone Assembly Winder better than a shaft-driven cone winder for rewinding high-tenacity aramid or UHMWPE yarns?
Yes — for high-tenacity aramid and UHMWPE yarns, the CW-250's individual motor-driven drum system is a better choice than a shaft-driven winder. Shaft-driven machines apply a common mechanical speed across all positions, creating tension variation that damages sensitive high-tenacity structures. The CW-250 controls each position independently, doubles production rate, and reduces power and space requirements by up to 40% compared to shaft-driven designs.
Is the Cone to Cone Assembly Winder the same as a cheese to cone rewinding machine?
Yes — the Cone to Cone Assembly Winder and a cheese to cone rewinding machine refer to the same product family. The CW-250 accepts both cheese and cone feed packages up to 250 mm diameter and winds onto either cheese or cone take-up packages. The naming difference simply reflects the feed package format used; the machine hardware, drive system, and tension controls are identical across both configurations.
What input package quality does the Cone to Cone Assembly Winder need when processing aramid yarn for dyeing?
The CW-250 accepts aramid feed packages in cheese or cone format up to 250 mm diameter and 4–5 kg weight. No pre-conditioning of the package is required, but the feed package must be free of gross entanglement since the machine's optical break sensor responds to yarn absence rather than tension spike. For best results, feed packages should have a consistent wind density to avoid sloughing during unwind at speeds up to 500 MPM.
What take-up package quality can I expect from the Cone to Cone Assembly Winder when winding aramid yarn for downstream twisting?
The CW-250 produces knot-less take-up packages weighing 7–8 kg on a 57 × 290 mm format with a maximum diameter of 250 mm. The anodized aluminum grooved drum delivers a precise, consistent traverse across the full 250 mm winding width, producing a firm, uniform package suitable for downstream twisting. An optional overfeeder attachment is available where soft winding is required instead of a hard-wound package.
What goes wrong if yarn tension is inconsistent during aramid rewinding on the Cone to Cone Assembly Winder?
Inconsistent tension during aramid rewinding causes package layers to vary in density, leading to sloughing or ribbon formation that jams downstream twisting equipment. Because aramid has near-zero elongation, even small tension spikes can snap filaments rather than stretch the yarn. The CW-250's washer tension device is the primary safeguard against this; if the device is worn or incorrectly set, filament breakage rates rise and optical sensors will trigger repeated automatic stops.
