Cone to Cone Assembly Winder for multi ply yarn | Meera
TLDR

What this page covers, at a glance

When producing multi ply yarn, combining two or more ends onto a single package without tension variation between plies is the central challenge — and the Cone to Cone Assembly Winder (Model CW-250) is built precisely to meet it. Running at 300–500 MPM across 24 individually motor-driven positions, the CW-250 pulls each feed end from its own creel package and delivers all plies together onto a take-up cone or cheese of up to 250 mm diameter, producing knot-less packages weighing 7–8 kg. Whether the input material is cotton, polyester, PP, acrylic, viscose, or any blended yarn, the individual motor system means a speed or tension deviation on one ply does not cascade to its neighbours.

Because the CW-250 handles the full spectrum of staple and filament inputs — from fine viscose and PA to heavier wool and blended yarns — the same machine that winds 2-ply cotton counts also handles 6-ply polyester or acrylic constructions without mechanical reconfiguration. The washer tension device keeps each ply under uniform draw as the assembly package builds, and the anodized aluminum grooved drum lays the combined yarn at a consistent traverse of 250 mm, producing a package geometry ready for immediate dye-house entry or further downstream twisting.

Product to use

What product to use

For multi ply yarn, specify the Cone to Cone Assembly Winder CW-250: its creel-fed, individual motor-driven configuration handles up to 6 plies simultaneously at up to 500 MPM, delivering uniform-tension, knot-less combined packages while cutting operating cost by up to 40% against shaft-driven alternatives.

Why this product · for this application

Why the Cone to Cone Assembly Winder is the right product for multi ply yarn

Multi ply yarn demands that every constituent end — whether polyester FDY, cotton, acrylic, or a blended yarn — arrives at the assembly point under identical tension and at identical speed; any mismatch creates uneven twist take-up, package snarling, or ply separation downstream. The Cone to Cone Assembly Winder CW-250 resolves this by assigning an individual motor to each winding drum, so the speed of one position is set and held independently from every other. The washer tension device on each position further normalises draw between light DTY and heavier PA or wool ends, and the optical sensor yarn break detection cuts the offending end and signals the operator without stopping adjacent positions — protecting the integrity of the remaining plies in the assembly.

The machine's suitability for multi ply yarn is reinforced by its overlap with adjacent material categories handled by the same platform. Filament yarns including polyester multifilament and PP multifilament (PPMF) are regularly fed through creel-based assembly winding configurations on the CW-250 to produce twisted or cabled constructions, while blended yarns combining cotton with viscose or acrylic are assembled for dye-house preparation — the same tension-control and break-detection architecture serves both. This breadth of confirmed material handling confirms that the mechanical design choices underpinning the CW-250 are not coincidental but structural fits for the multi ply assembly task.

How It Works

  1. Creel Loading & Ply Count Selection

The operator loads individual feed cones or cheeses (up to 250 mm diameter, 4–5 kg each) onto the creel — one package per ply. For constructions up to 3 ply the standard single-ply creel is used; for 4-to-6-ply assemblies, the optional expanded creel configuration is fitted. Each feed package is threaded through its own washer tension device on the CW-250 so that tension for each ply is set independently before the ends are combined at the guide.

  2. Tension Normalisation Across All Plies

With all ends running, the CW-250's washer tension devices equalise draw across materials that may differ in denier, crimp, or surface friction — for example, when assembling a 2-ply blend of polyester and viscose, or a 4-ply assembly of acrylic and wool. Because each drum is individually motor-driven, the machine compensates for slight denier variation between cones without requiring the operator to re-tension the entire set of plies.

  3. Optical Break Detection & Automatic Cut

During winding, the optical sensor on each position monitors yarn presence continuously. When a single ply breaks mid-run, the sensor triggers the heavy-duty cutter on that position immediately, preventing the broken end from wrapping into the forming package or tangling with adjacent plies — a risk that is amplified in multi ply winding because a single undetected break can corrupt the entire assembled count.

  4. High-Speed Assembly Winding onto Take-Up Package

The combined multi ply yarn is wound onto the take-up cone or cheese by the anodized aluminum grooved drum at speeds of 300–500 MPM, with a 250 mm traverse producing a geometrically stable package. The optional overfeeder attachment allows soft winding when the ply construction — for example a delicate 2-ply viscose or a spandex-core blended yarn — requires reduced winding tension to prevent package hardness issues in the dye-house.

  5. Package Doffing & Downstream Handoff

The completed take-up package (7–8 kg, knot-less, up to 250 mm diameter) is doffed and is immediately suitable for dye-house loading or further twisting operations. Because the CW-250's parameter controls allow presetting of yarn count, type, speed, and target package length, doff-to-doff consistency across all 24 positions means the assembled multi ply packages enter downstream processes with uniform lot characteristics.

Why Cone to Cone Assembly Winder

Individual Motor Per Drum — No Shared-Shaft Compromise
In multi ply winding, a shaft-driven machine forces every position to run at the same mechanical speed regardless of ply count or yarn type; the CW-250 eliminates this constraint by driving each drum with its own motor, so a 3-ply cotton position and a 6-ply polyester position can run simultaneously on the same machine frame at their respective optimal speeds.
Per-Ply Optical Break Detection Protects Package Integrity
Because the CW-250 fits an optical sensor and heavy-duty cutter to every individual winding position, a break in one ply of a multi ply assembly triggers an immediate automatic cut and stop at that position only — preventing a broken end from burying itself inside a partially built combined package and causing downstream defects or dye-lot rejection.
Free Yarn Trial Before Purchase Commitment
Before ordering, customers can submit their specific multi ply yarn combination — including fibre type, denier, and target ply count — for a machine trial on the CW-250, confirming tension settings, speed parameters, and package quality on their actual material rather than relying on specification sheets alone.

"Looks like a robust machine," that's what Sanjay said when the Two For One Twister showed up. He's not wrong. Been using it in our operation for months now, and haven’t found much to complain about—runs like a charm mostly. But stars of the show were Meera's support team when we hit a snag. They sorted the issue fast, and it wasn't some run-of-the-mill hiccup either. Saw these folks regularly at trade shows but wasn't sure till I tried their stuff myself. No regrets here except one thing—ordering spares could be less of a headache. Could do with some streamlining on that front.

Met a guy from Meera at a trade fair, and we talked over chai. Decided to try out their Bulking And Heat Setting Machines for our carpet yarn. The thing does a good job—handles all kinds of materials like polyester and wool without breaking a sweat. We've got it running almost daily with no hiccups. The support team deserves credit here. Had an issue with the temperature settings at first, but they were quick to sort it out. Honestly saved us some downtime. Only wish ordering spares was easier; bit of back and forth there. If you're considering these machines, ask them about setup specifics before diving in. They'll guide you well, but it's good to be clear early on.

50% less production time. That’s what Meera's Compound Twister delivered for us. We took the leap, and honestly, it paid off big. Always a bit skeptical with promises like that—but they backed it up. Installation was a little more back-and-forth than I’d hoped, but in the end, worth every email. Our processes really needed this kind of efficiency boost, and seeing direct cuts in energy consumption was huge too. If you're managing a midsize operation like ours, definitely have a look at them.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can the Cone to Cone Assembly Winder handle multi ply viscose and acrylic blended yarn without tension imbalance between plies?
Yes — the Cone to Cone Assembly Winder (Model CW-250) handles viscose, acrylic, and blended yarn combinations in configurations up to 6 ply. A washer tension device maintains consistent tension independently across each end, preventing the ply-to-ply variation that causes uneven package build. The individual motor-driven drum system allows per-position speed control, which is critical when combining yarns with different elongation characteristics in a single blended assembly.
How does the Cone to Cone Assembly Winder prevent yarn breakage during high-speed multi ply winding of polyester FDY or DTY?
The Cone to Cone Assembly Winder uses an optical sensor yarn break detection system paired with a heavy-duty automatic cutter that responds immediately when any ply breaks during winding. For slippery filament yarns like polyester FDY and DTY, the anodized aluminum grooved drum ensures consistent surface grip and traverse control at speeds up to 500 MPM standard, preventing cascading breaks across the remaining plies in the assembly.
Is the Cone to Cone Assembly Winder better than a shaft-driven winder for producing multi ply PP multifilament yarn packages for the dye-house?
Yes — the Cone to Cone Assembly Winder outperforms shaft-driven winders for multi ply PP multifilament dye-house preparation in three measurable ways. It doubles production rate, reduces overall operating cost by up to 40%, and eliminates the mechanical maintenance issues inherent to a common shaft drive. Individual motor control per position also means one position can stop for a break without disrupting the rest of the machine, which is impractical on shaft-driven designs.
Is the Cone to Cone Assembly Winder the same as a cheese to cone rewinding machine?
Yes — 'cheese to cone rewinding machine' refers to the same product family as the Cone to Cone Assembly Winder. The naming distinction reflects the feed package format: the Model CW-250 accepts both cheese and cone feed packages up to 250 mm diameter and winds onto either cheese or cone take-up packages. 'Cheese to cone' simply describes the specific feed-to-take-up path when the input package is a cylindrical cheese format.
When should I choose the Cone to Cone Assembly Winder over a single-end rewinder for nylon and PA yarn package preparation?
Choose the Cone to Cone Assembly Winder when you need to combine two or more nylon or PA yarn ends onto a single take-up package, or when preparing multi ply assemblies up to 6 ply for downstream dyeing or twisting. A single-end rewinder is only appropriate for one-end-in, one-end-out rewinding. The CW-250 also suits facilities where energy and floor space are constrained, given its up to 40% reduction in both power and space requirements.
What take-up package weight and dimensions can I expect from the Cone to Cone Assembly Winder when winding cotton or wool multi ply yarn?
The Cone to Cone Assembly Winder produces knot-less take-up packages weighing 7–8 kg on a 57 × 290 mm cone or cheese format, with a maximum built diameter of 250 mm. These specifications apply across cotton, wool, and comparable spun yarns. The washer tension device and grooved drum maintain consistent package density throughout the build, which is essential for uniform dye penetration in downstream dye-house processing.
What happens if feed package tension is uneven when running 4-ply or 6-ply assembly winding on the Cone to Cone Assembly Winder?
Uneven feed tension across plies causes differential elongation in the assembled package, resulting in loose or tight individual ends that produce barré defects after dyeing or uneven twist distribution in downstream twisting. The Cone to Cone Assembly Winder's washer tension device is designed to equalize tension per end before the yarns converge at the drum. Without it correctly set per yarn count and type, package hardness variation and end-to-end diameter differences will accumulate across the 24-position machine.
